Barbados in the Caribbean
Barbados is the most easterly island of the Lesser Antilles. The 430 square kilometre coral island, pushed out of the sea by volcanic activity millions of years ago, is circled by coral reefs with its stunning underwater world which falls in a series of “terraces” in the west and goes into an incline in the east. The north shore of the island is lined with jagged coral cliffs which collide with the relentless breakers. Within the Barbados coral core, there are many caves and underground lakes which provide an excellent supply of drinking water.
The adventurous East Coast
The calm West Coast
Different from the untamed beaches on the East Coast are the beaches on the West and South coast are calmer. The area around Silver Sands on the South Coast is best for Kite Surfing. Near the shore find stand-up-paddler in their zone.
The West Coast of Barbados is also known as the ‘Platinum Coast’ or ‘Gold Coast’ and is great for snorkeling or swimming with turtles.
